Start with weights with which you can complete 10 reps for 3 sets(for beginners ) and for intermediates increase the weights and slowly decrease the reps. In this workout. Have controlled motion. Keep in mind the next workout you have to do a bit more (progressive overload).
To have a great V taper you must train the Back. You can add traps if you want, you can check traps workout in shoulder workout. Pose lat spread after each set of lat pull down.
